Since there may be one or two other Anderson Families out there, here’s a brief history to distinguish us from the rest.
We’re originally from isconsin. Kathy grew up in metropolitan Racine and Mike was raised on a hog farm just a mile south of suburban Franksville (yes, home of the famous Franksville Kraut Festival, which, sad to say, is no longer held). Mike went to Horlick High School and Kathy attended St. Catherine’s High School. They met in chemistry class at the University of Wisconsin. The chemistry was obviously right and the rest, as they say, is history (which is what this is about, after all).
Kathy and Mike both graduated from UW-Madison in 1970 and were married in 1971 – that’s 53 years ago. Eric was born in Madison in 1976 and Matthew was born in Racine in 1978. After teaching chemistry at the University of Wisconsin for 9 years (at both UW-Madison and UW-Parkside), Mike selected for his first mid-life crisis a return to graduate school. That brought us to Portland, Oregon in 1982.
After getting a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering, Mike put in 18 years with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality before retiring in 2006. During that time Kathy did the most amazing job of running the family and working various miscellaneous jobs to help cover the ever growing expenses. Eric graduated from Sunset High School in 1994 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1998. Matthew graduated from Sunset High School in 1997 and from Beloit College in 2001. In 2007 Mike and Kathy moved back to Madison.
