I don’t know how parents keep up when they have 5 or 6 kids. We have only two children, they’re both adults, and we still have a difficult time keeping up with them. If you read my previous blog you know that our younger son Matthew got married in Indianapolis on 12/12/12. The night after we returned from that event we went to the Overture Center in Madison to see the musical “She Loves Me” put on by Four Seasons Theatre. Our older son Eric was the conductor for that production. Despite having to conduct on 12/7 – 12/9 and teach on 12/10 – 12/11, he made it down to Indianapolis for the wedding on 12/12, returned to teach on 12/13 – 12/14 and conduct again on 12/14 – 12/16. So, our making it to the wedding and one performance of the musical in the same week doesn’t seem like much.
Kathy and I really enjoyed the performance, which ended with a bit of a holiday theme. The movie “You’ve Got Mail” was based on this play. You don’t have to take our word for the quality of the performance. A review by Amelia Cook on the Isthmus Daily Page said, “Directed by Brian Cowing, this production gets everything right. On opening night, the orchestra was so good, I forgot it was there. Instead of simply embellishing the action, the musicians, under the direction of Eric Anderson, infused scenes with energy.”
As if that wasn’t enough, Verona Area High School, where Eric is the Band Director, had a big holiday concert on Tuesday, 12/18. We attended that also and enjoyed it very much. So, it was a busy and enjoyable week for us, but a very busy (and we hope enjoyable) week for our son Eric.
In case you haven’t noticed, Kathy and I are very proud of our sons.
