As I’ve said before, my blog entries are usually rather light-hearted. However, I have another more serious thought to share today.
Last week I volunteered taking pictures for the UW School of Music Summer Music Clinics. It was fun watching all of the talented and eager young junior high students in their classes and as they enjoyed time with their friends and classmates between classes. One afternoon I was waiting to take pictures of some students walking over the University Avenue overpass on their way back to the Humanities Building. While I was standing there I heard a siren and looked around for the source. An SUV-type vehicle raced west towards University Hospital. The sign on the side said it was an organ transplant courier. I realized that off in one direction a family was suffering the unbearably sad tragedy of a lost loved one. In the other direction a family was hoping and praying that this would finally be the day that a loved one would get a second chance. In the middle of it all the students came smiling and laughing over the street, carrying their instruments, giggling, talking, and as full of life as anyone could ever be. They were, of course, oblivious to these unseen emotions being experienced by the families connected by the path of that vehicle. I was glad that they were unaware. This is their time to shine; let them be spared such troubles for as long as possible.
