I was trying to think of a very old song that I wrote and I could not get my aging brain to dredge it up. Apparently my brain felt sorry for me and the first verse of this new song popped into my head. The second verse came right away. They bounced around in my head for a couple of months before I finally sat down and wrote the rest of it. By the way, I’m probably talking to myself.

1. I’m just talking while I’m walking in my walking shoes. I’m in no hurry; I got no worries; I’ve long since paid my dues. I can’t go back, can’t go back to the time when I was young. It doesn’t matter ‘cause you know in my mind I’m still a young man now. 2. I hear the thunder; it makes me wonder is it going to rain? The sky might turn gray, the sun might go ‘way but I still won’t complain. I’m not the kind, not the kind of a guy who needs much money, And if you’re won’dring, if you’re wondering why, I’ll tell you I don’t know. 3. I’m not a schemer; I’m just a dreamer who likes to know the score. So I’ll keep trying until I’m dying to keep on learning more. You never know, never know when a plan might just go your way. And if it does, if it does get on board and enjoy the ride. 4. Cars might drive by, planes might fly high but I still walk along. And even if I’m down to my last dime I’ll keep on keeping on. You know the life, know the life that we have is what we make it. It doesn’t come, it doesn’t come with a plan; we build it from our dreams. 5. So stop your fretting it’s time for getting on with the new day. Joy and laughter are what you’re after; don’t let them slip away. There’ll come a time, come a time in your life when you look back. You won’t remember, won’t remember the strife but you’ll remember love. I’m just talking while I’m walking in my walking shoes. (fade) |
