I was never into frogs and snakes when I was a kid. (Come to think of it, I was never into bugs either.) But, when our kids were growing up, we liked to watch the Muppets Show and Sesame Street and I developed quite a fondness for Kermit the Frog. Although it’s not easy being green, he always seems to be doing fine.
Recently, while visiting Matthew’s workplace, the wonderful Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Kathy and I had the opportunity to meet quite a few of Kermit’s more exotic relatives. They were not just green, but black, blue, and yellow as well, and they were from such faraway places as the jungles of Brazil, the deserts of Argentina, and the forests of Southern China. Quite an interesting family.
Some of the frogs were fat and round and blended into their surroundings. There they could just sit and wait for their food to come to them. Others were sleek and green and roamed the trees looking for their dinner. Some were considered to be the most poisonous animals in the world. They were brightly colored and hopped around with impunity knowing they would not be eaten by predators. I didn’t see any others made of felt so Kermit is quite unique.
So, if you like frogs, or even if you don’t, head to Indianapolis and visit them. But hurry, the frogs are only there through January 2, 2012!
