I wrote this song a few days before Christmas in 2008.  After listening to mostly unheard-of holiday songs on a local rock station all day, I wondered why anyone would even bother to write another Christmas song.

That night I woke up with this song going through my head.  I quickly wrote down the lyrics to verse 1 and notes about how verses 2 and 3 should go.  Then I ran down to the computer and recorded the melody so I wouldn’t forget it.  The next morning after breakfast I finished writing the song and made this recording.

1.  Oh, what can I say about Christmas
That hasn’t all been said before?
There are so many songs of the season.
We surely don’t need anymore.
But it always makes me feel like singing;
There must be something in the air,
Like snowflakes and silver bells ringing,
And being with people who care
That we all get together to share
All the wonderful things about Christmas.

2.  Oh, what can I say about Christmas
That doesn’t sound silly or trite?
We remember a baby named Jesus
Who was born on this oh, holy night.
He taught us to love one another;
That’s the greatest gift of them all.
We all should be sisters and brothers
No matter if you’re great or small
Please remember to answer this call
For the wonderful things about Christmas.

3.  Oh, what can I say about Christmas
That would put a warm smile on your face?
There should always be hope for the future
When our children will stand in our place.
May the joy that we feel always be there
And their children be happy and strong
Just remember the love that we all share
Will stay with them their whole life long
That’s why I wrote this one more song
On the wonderful things about Christmas.

(Repeat Verse 1)
